Dr. Hanif M. Bey is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at East Stroudsburg University, where he teaches and develops undergraduate social work courses focused on anti-oppressive practice, crisis intervention, strengths-based approaches, and child welfare. With more than a decade of experience in higher education and three decades of professional social work practice, Dr. Bey brings a unique blend of academic scholarship, clinical expertise, and community engagement to his teaching.
A Licensed Social Worker in Pennsylvania, Dr. Bey earned his Doctor of Social Work from Kutztown/Millersville University, where his dissertation examined the role of U.S. legal discourse in creating, sustaining, and disrupting the vestiges of slavery. His research interests include anti-oppressive social work practice, anti-racism, diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (ADEI), critical race theory, structural racism, and trauma-informed care.
Dr. Bey has developed multiple online and in-person social work courses aligned with current CSWE educational standards and is committed to creating engaging learning environments that connect theory to real-world practice. His scholarship has been published in the Journal of Teaching in Social Work, and he regularly presents at professional conferences on issues affecting the future of social work education and practice.
